Each Legend has a passive, tactical, and ultimate ability which are unique to them, and a squad can only have one of any given character.

It is a free-to-play game but players can spend both real money and in-game currency on microtransactions and loot boxes, which enable them to change the colour of weapons or alter their legend’s outfit.

There are usually 20 teams of three-player squads, which can be created with friends or by being randomly matched with strangers online.

All teams start the game on an aircraft above the game map, with one player designated to be jumpmaster and determine when their team skydives to reach the ground and where to land.

Player’s can go their own way, but Apex Legends is very much a team game and those who want to make their own decisions are probably better suited to other games which offer more autonomy.

As a shooter game, the objective is to eliminate your enemies, until you are the last team standing.

You do so by scavenging weapons and supplies when you land, avoiding dying (though your teammates can bring you back) and communicating effectively with your teammates through the ping system and microphone.

Best Sites to Bet on Apex Legends

As Apex Legends is still new, relatively speaking, some sites which offer esports betting may not yet have included it.

So, at least at first, betting on Apex Legends may have been simply a case of finding a site which offered AL markets.

However, with the emergence of the AL Global Series Championship in 2020, that should change quickly, if it hasn’t already done so.

We’ve given you a selection of our recommendations for the best sites to bet on Apex Legends, below:

Available Bets on Apex Legends

Assuming sites do offer Apex Legends betting, the different types of bets are likely to be the same as other popular esports such as CS: GO, or Fortnite.

We’ve broken down the most popular types of Apex Legends bets below.

Outright

Outright bets refer to betting on the overall outcome of a tournament in advance of it taking place.

This may be the overall winner, whether a particular team reaches the final, or another similar market, likely related to different stages of the AL Global Series.

Money-line Bets

Money-line bets are similar to outright but refer to individual games. You are still betting on the outcome, just usually these markets open much closer to the event.

Live Bets

Sometimes esports bookmakers also offer live or in-play betting, where you can bet on specific actions and results within the game as it is happening.

Specials

Bookies also like to offer specials sometimes, particularly centered around major tournaments, or for related subjects which don’t fit traditional markets, such as the likelihood of a star playing jumping ship.

Other specials might refer to in-game actions such as the number of kills obtained in a round.

Apex Legends Tournaments

The pinnacle of the Apex Legends events calendar is the Apex Legends Global Series Championship, which was launched in 2020 by Respawn. Despite disruptions to the esports world through Covid-19.

Consisting of 12 global live events, 10 online tournaments and eight premier tournaments including the traditional four season majors, the Global series borrows its format from the Epic Games‘ Fortnite competition.

As Apex Legends was only launched in February 2019, it is still new to the world of esports games, but gathering support and investment quickly.

The creation of the APGS tournament, with a prize pool of $1 million of a total $3 million Apex Legends prize pool gives players a huge incentive to bring their A game to try to come out on top.

Crucially, the rules allow any player from a list of 60 countries to participate in the tournament, whether they are members of official esports teams or not.

In theory, any player can become the next star of the Apex Legends arena.

History of Apex Legends

Apex Legends is one of the newest games to be considered an esport, but it has quickly gained a large following and has huge potential in the esports arena, if EA can stop the steady decline in interest that the game seems to be suffering since the initial excitement died down.

First launched in February 2019, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One with absolutely no marketing, Apex Legends was a complete surprise to fans and critics alike who had previously assumed Respawn was working on a new installment of Titanfall.

Coming out as a viable contender to the phenomenon that was Fortnite Battle Royale (2018) Apex Legends enjoyed a stratospheric growth from barely any players to more than 50 million between March and April 2019.

Unfortunately the sudden influx of a massive amount of players exposed all of the games flaws before the developers could fix them gradually as they were no doubt expecting to do.

Developers Respawn and publishers Electronic Arts (EA) were lambasted for bugs, connectivity issues, reports of cheating and a host of other niggles and players complained or left in droves.

Worse, esports stars such as Shroud and Dr. Disrespect were extremely vocal about the problems evident in Apex Legends.

Cheating on esports isn’t a new issue but Apex Legends seemed to be particularly vulnerable to it, with reportedly hundreds of thousands of players being banned.

The game also lacked the revenue stream of games such as League of Legends or Fortnite because players were not inclined to pay to alter the appearance of a character model they couldn’t really see in battle.

However, the creation of the $3 million tournament in 2020 shows a belief in Apex Legends that will hopefully be backed up by action in ironing out the problems which continue to cost them players and money.

There are still plenty of Apex Legends fans out there, and certainly a big market for betting on Apex Legends.
