The Best Betting Sites for PUBG

PUBG or PlayerUknown’s Battlegrounds, to give it its full title, is rapidly carving out a niche for itself.

Despite not yet troubling the biggest and most popular esports, PUBG is creating great betting potential for savvy punters and big sports bookmakers are taking notice.

In this guide, we’ll give you a brief overview of the game and delve a little bit into its history. We’ll also explain the different types of PUBG betting, and recommend a few trusted sites which are offering PUBG odds.

How is PUBG Played?

The rules and objectives of PUBG are pretty straightforward, up to 100 players jump out of an aircraft, landing on a map. They will then scavenge and earn weapons, ammunition, grenades, and supplies and use them to try to kill off the enemy team.

In PUBG, the map shrinks as the round progresses, increasingly forcing the remaining players into close-quarters battles to the death.

During the game, airdrops will also take place, giving players more chances to acquire weapons and gear, and sections of the map will turn red and be bombed, forcing players to keep moving.

You can choose the map you want to play from the following list:

  • Miramar
  • Vikendi
  • Erangel
  • Sanhok
  • Range

You can also play first-person or third-person depending on your preference and matches come in three formats:

  • Solo
  • Duo
  • Squad

The format is accessible to players of all levels, but it takes real skill and strategy to be the last player standing, which also makes for interesting betting.

What Types of Bets Can I Place on PUBG?

Unlike many esports, PUBG offers its own unique markets, in addition to the usual match-winner and outright bets. Here’s a quick rundown:

  • Match-Winner – as it sounds
  • Outright/Tournament Winner – the same as match-winner but for the overall winner of a tournament or event
  • First Blood – which team or player will be first to kill an opponent
  • Live Betting – in-play, real-time betting
  • Hedge – placing bets on different outcomes to guarantee profits
  • Parlays – combining multiple bets providing worse odds to win but with a bigger win if correct
  • Over/under – placing a bet against the bookmakers’ odds
  • First Map – which team will win the first map
  • Round-winner – which team will win the first round
  • Totals – placing a bet against the bookmakers’ odds for total number of kills/maps/rounds
  • Odd/Even – based on the number of points or confirmed kills
  • Handicap – betting when one team is given a points advantage by the bookmaker

Placing a Winning Bet

Although the concept of the game is simple, it requires skill to survive until the end, so you are likely to be left with the best players battling it out head-to-head after most have been eliminated.

With this in mind, there are a couple of factors you can research to give you a more educated prediction for the winner.

  • Check out a team’s recent gameplay online
  • Also, look at their performances on big occasions – some may be overawed in big tournaments
  • Look out for any roster changes which may disrupt the team
  • A packed schedule could also indicate a team may run out of steam
  • Finally, check social media and industry news for any psychological issues which could affect performance

History of PUBG

Developed and published by PUBG Corporation, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) is a multiplayer online battle royale game (MOBA) first released in 2017.

Inspired by the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale, and previous mods created by Brendan Greene, PUBG sees up to 100 players parachute onto an island where they then have to kill their enemies and avoid being killed themselves.

Initially released for Microsoft Windows and Xbox One in 2017, PUBG also spawned a free-to-play mobile version for Android and iOS in 2018, along with a port for PlayStation 4.

PUBG was well-received by critics and fans, but it was noted that there were some technical issues, and that the game could be highly addictive, due to its accessibility to players of any level and highly replayable nature.

Of course, such qualities have helped PUBG to become one of the biggest video games in the world.

It is credited with popularizing the battle royale genre and has become one of most-played and best-selling games of all time.

Game Popularity

More than 70 million copies of the game have been sold to date, with over 734 million downloads of PUBG Mobile. The game has grossed more than $3.5 billion on mobile devices.

PUBG’s journey as an esport began in 2017 when Bluehole (the PUBG Corporation’s parent company) announced a charity Invitational competitive game on its official Twitch channel, ostensibly to celebrate exceeding sales of 2 million copies.

The tournament raised $120,000 for the Gamers Outreach Foundation, with Bluehole matching all donations up to $100,000.

This event not only raised money for charity and raised the profile of the game, it also provided a template for future PUBG esports events, which eventually led to the creation of the PUBG Global Championship in 2019.
