Save the World

This is a cooperative shooter-survival game where you work in squads of up to four players to complete mission objectives such as defending fortresses against attacks from husks.

Battle Royale

This is a free 100-player mode which consists of one huge map and a battle bus, with player on player combat. In this mode, the environments can be built up and destroyed.

There is also a sub-mode – Party Royale where there is no combat, just a series of races and obstacle courses, there are even live concerts by top artists!

Creative

The newest mode of Fortnite came along with Season 7. Creative gives players the option to play with their friends on islands they can create for themselves, equipped with weapons and devices from Battle Royale.

In all versions, players can build and destroy their environments, scavenging materials such as brick, wood, and metal to create their own fortresses and tunnels to trap husks.

An in-game currency called V-Bucks is used to make purchases with real-world funds.

Fortnite differs from many other similar games in the huge range of cosmetic alterations it enables with character and outfit skins.

Not only can you purchase skins from the game’s Item Shop individually, but you can also make a one-off purchase of a seasonal Battle Pass which will unlock new character skins, such as MCU Avengers and DC heroes and villains.

Here are a couple of tips for novices:

  • Wait a few seconds before you drop from the Battle Bus to lessen the competition and maximize your landing space
  • Make shelter before you start to heal or drink a shield potion
  • Try to reach higher ground in a gunfight
  • Use assault rifles or SMGs until you get comfortable with the game
  • Most rewards can only be accessed with a seasonal Battle Pass

How to Place a Winning Bet

Before you place a bet on Fortnite, you may want to do a little bit of research, particularly if you aren’t familiar with the teams who are involved in the match or tournament you happen to be betting on.

With any kind of sports bet, including esports, there are a few things you can look into:

  • Current form of each team involved
  • Where they rank in the world
  • Head-to-head comparison –Sometimes better teams lose to underdogs due to psychological factors, so look at the history of match-ups between the teams
  • Changes to teams or schedules
  • Check players’ social media, and industry news for any disturbances or personal issues that might affect performance

History of Fortnite

The first incarnation of Fortnite was Fortnite: Save the World, a co-op third-person shooter survival game.

A rough trailer of this version of Fortnite was presented by Epic Games then design director Cliff Bleszinski at the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards.

Instead of pitting players against each other, it made them work together to save what was left of humanity after a Thanos-style elimination of 98% of the world’s population.

Issues with funding set back the launch of Fortnite until July 2017, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. By then it has loot systems, progression and building mechanics, but the storyline was incomplete and the graphics were unimpressive, leaving critics underwhelmed.

Of course, Epic Games continued to work on these quibbles.

Fans embraced Fortnite, making the game, particularly Battle Royale, a cultural phenomenon, seemingly overnight.

Apex Legends release in 2019 seemed to spell trouble for Fortnite, but the many issues with AL, which we’re quickly discovered after its launch, led many who had defected from Fortnite to return.

Since its initial release, Fortnite has changed a lot in terms of its weapons, vehicles, and even the island itself. Some locations have been destroyed and replaced, whilst others have just been tweaked.

By and large, these changes fed into the narrative and encouraged players who have strayed away from Fortnite to rediscover what they loved about the game, by being forced to explore.

Different seasons of the game have all featured different stories and characters, with lots of Marvel and DC tie-ins.

Chapter 2: Season 4 “Nexus War” was a huge Avengers-style adventure where major Fortnite characters and Marvel heroes and even villains teamed up to defend the planet from an uber-villain called Galactus.

In order to bring the likes of Iron Man, Storm, Doctor Doom, Groot and, later, Wolverine players had to purchase a seasonal battle pass. DC’s Batman, Harley Quinn, and John Wick are also characters in the Fortnite world.

The extensive merchandising franchise includes just about everything from t-shirts, backpacks and keychains, to crossover action figures, official Fortnite Chronicle books, nerf guns, Fortnite Jenga and Monopoly, replica weapons, and both adult and children’s costumes so you can dress up as your favourite Fortnite characters.

Fortnite made $2.4 billion in 2018 and $1.8 billion in 2019 and, although its momentum has slowed down, it remains the top Battle Royale game, at least for the time being.

Whilst there are always new contenders to tempt players away, Fortnite is unlikely to fall too far anytime soon.
